Things to do in McGregor and Surrounds

Small Town Life

Take a stroll through the village and discover why country living is so appealing. There are a number of eateries and restaurants to discover as well as a handful of quirky shops. The village comes alive on weekends and the Saturday morning market runs from 9am to 11am. Here you can meet the locals and find delicious home-made fare as well as organic vegetables.

For fresh produce and deli goods, pop into Made in McGregor and The Blend, however for super market purchases it is best to obtain what you need in Robertson (approximately 20 minutes away).

For art enthusiasts visit The Potters House, La Galleria and Art in the Garden on a Saturday morning.

Temenos Retreat is not to be missed, with its beautiful garden oasis to explore. The Eseltjiesrus donkey sanctuary is a great outing for both kids and adults.

Nature Lovers

The hiking and mountain biking options are excellent. Go for a walk in The Krans nature reserve or Vrolijkheid nature reserve just outside the village. The 14km Boesmanskloof Trail offers a more challenging hike, through mountainous terrain. What makes the trail exceptional is that it starts in one town and ends in another. Hikers can choose to start in McGregor and finish in Greyton, or vice versa. The hike passes through the Riversonderend mountain range with a beautiful halfway picnic spot at a waterfall, where you can have a dip. A permit is required for the Boesmasnkloof Trail.

Explore the Winelands

There are excellent wine farms and estates in McGregor as well as the neighbouring areas of Robertson, Bonnievale and Ashton.  There’s no shortage of exceptional estates to visit. Lord's Wines, Springfield Estate, Graham Beck and Weltevrede are a few of our favourites.

Hit the Route 62 and Garden Route

McGregor is conveniently positioned and is a great starting point for further travels in the Western Cape. The much loved R62 is easily accessible. This picturesque route takes you through delightful small towns such as Montagu, Barrydale and Calitzdorp. Or opt for a Garden Route getaway and make your way to Swellendam and on to the N2.
